Vogue World Opens Milan Fashion Week With Craft, a Livestream and a Library Pledge

By Paris Runway Official | September 20, 2026

Milan Fashion Week opens on Tuesday, September 22 with a city-scale fashion event that anyone can watch online. Vogue World: Milano is scheduled for the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, where Vogue plans a live presentation centered on Italian craftsmanship and the relationship between human making and technology. The livestream is set for 8 p.m. Milan time (2 p.m. Eastern; 11 a.m. Pacific), according to Vogue’s September 18 viewing guide.

The timing gives the event a prominent place at the start of Milan’s Spring/Summer 2027 season. Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana’s official calendar, updated September 17, spans September 22–28 and lists Vogue World: Milano on its opening day. The same document organizes the subsequent runway shows, presentations and digital appointments separately. Vogue World is therefore part of the week’s opening program; it should not be described as an ordinary house runway show or confused with the complete Milan catwalk calendar.

What is confirmed for September 22

Vogue says the event will take place inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the nineteenth-century arcade near the Duomo and La Scala. It has described a sequence of thematic acts exploring Italian fashion’s craft heritage, innovation and the continuing role of the human hand. The organizer’s September 18 update confirms that the show will be livestreamed on its official viewing page at 8 p.m. local time.

Creative participants named by Vogue include creative director Juan Costa Paz, fashion lead Lady Amanda Harlech and show curator Judith Clark. Its newer viewing guide also names the livestream director and production team. These are announced production credits, not evidence of which designers, models or performances will appear in the final program. Vogue says there will be surprise guests, so the full lineup should not be treated as settled before the event.

The community project beyond the spectacle

Vogue World: Milano is tied to a proposed revitalization of the Quarto Oggiaro Library in northwestern Milan. Vogue Italia’s account of the initiative describes plans for a more multifunctional neighborhood space supporting fashion, music, art, learning and community activity. Vogue has stated that it will invest at least €2 million to help inaugurate a new center at the library.

That figure is an announced commitment—not an amount already raised, spent or independently audited. The project's eventual design, delivery and measurable community impact remain matters to follow after the fashion event. Its relevance now is the intended connection between a high-visibility city-center presentation and a cultural resource outside Milan’s most photographed fashion district.

Why the opening night matters

The official Milan calendar gives the industry seven days of activity from September 22 through September 28. Its September 17 update shows the main run of house catwalk appointments starting after the opening-day event, with names including Prada, Diesel, Fendi, Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Giorgio Armani distributed across the week. Timings and venues should always be checked against CNMI’s current PDF because schedules can change.

For international readers, the livestream offers a different kind of access from accredited show attendance. A public digital broadcast can be watched without a fashion-week invitation, while the separate house shows remain governed by their own press, buyer and guest arrangements. Our earlier Milan press-accreditation guide explains that distinction for working media; Vogue’s viewing page is the appropriate destination for audiences simply wishing to watch Tuesday’s event.

Paris Runway analysis: craft as Milan’s opening argument

The following is editorial analysis, not a claim about an outcome that has already occurred.

Placing craftsmanship at the beginning of the week makes an argument about how Milan wants to be seen: not only as a place where luxury collections are shown, but as a network of makers, workshops, cultural institutions and audiences. The human-versus-machine theme may resonate with designers and editors navigating an era of automated image production, yet the show itself will need to demonstrate that idea through its casting, garments, performance and production choices.

The library commitment also tests whether a fashion event can leave something more durable than a short media cycle. A clear public target is meaningful, but the more important story will be what the center ultimately delivers for the neighborhood. Editors covering the event should therefore report the spectacle and the promised social investment as related but distinct developments.
