Empty New York fashion runway at dawn before the September 11, 2026 NYFW schedule begins

NYFW’s September 11 Schedule Starts at 10 A.M. for the 9/11 Anniversary

New York Fashion Week will make a deliberate timetable adjustment on Friday, September 11, 2026. The Council of Fashion Designers of America has confirmed that the Official NYFW Schedule will not begin before 10:00 a.m. that day, a change made out of respect for the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

The decision creates a rare pause inside one of fashion’s busiest weeks. It is also a practical signal for editors, photographers, publicists, models and production teams: September 11 should be planned as a commemorative morning first and an industry workday second.

What the CFDA has confirmed

The CFDA published its preliminary Spring/Summer 2027 calendar on July 1. The official schedule opens on Thursday, September 10 with Henry Zankov’s debut collection as artistic director of Diane von Furstenberg and concludes on Tuesday, September 15 with Thom Browne. The preliminary program contains 70 runway shows and presentations, with additional appointments and digital releases expected around the core calendar.

Several brands will show before the official opening. Ralph Lauren is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, alongside Coach, Rachel Comey, Cult Gaia, J. Press and Libertine. The CFDA also confirmed that its fur-free policy will apply to every brand appearing on the Official NYFW Schedule this season.

For Friday, September 11, the organization’s published instruction is concise: the schedule will begin at 10:00 a.m. out of respect for the anniversary. That is the confirmed industry-wide adjustment. Individual show invitations, venue calls and backstage schedules remain the responsibility of participating brands and their production teams, so guests should treat the latest official calendar and direct invitations as the final authority.

Why the morning carries particular weight in 2026

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum’s 25th anniversary ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the Memorial plaza in Lower Manhattan. Family members will read the names of those killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The first moment of silence is scheduled for 8:46 a.m.

This year’s ceremony will include seven moments of silence. Six correspond to the attacks and collapse of the World Trade Center towers, the attack on the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93. A seventh will honor people who later died from 9/11-related illness and injury.

Media organizations planning separate coverage of the commemoration should note that the Memorial & Museum has opened its own accreditation process. Its stated application deadline is Wednesday, September 2, with decisions due on September 4. That credentialing is distinct from NYFW accreditation and from invitations to individual fashion shows.

Editorial analysis: what fashion teams should plan now

The following is Paris Runway’s analysis, not an additional CFDA requirement.

A 10:00 a.m. calendar start does not mean production begins at 10. Backstage hair and makeup, model call times, security sweeps and press arrivals can begin hours before a presentation. On this particular morning, brands should review every internal call sheet—not only the public show time—and ask whether nonessential activity can be shifted later.

Editorial teams covering both the commemoration and NYFW need two separate plans. The Memorial’s press rules, equipment procedures and pool arrangements do not transfer to fashion venues. Likewise, an NYFW credential does not grant access to the Memorial ceremony. Assignments, transportation and file-delivery expectations should be separated before the week begins.

Publicists and social teams should also consider tone as carefully as timing. Scheduled promotional posts, countdowns and celebratory language may appear out of step during the commemorative morning. A restrained publishing window, followed by clear show information later in the day, can preserve both respect and operational clarity.

For teams moving between Lower Manhattan and fashion venues elsewhere in the city, added travel margin is sensible. Security activity and commemorative events may affect movement even when a venue is not near the Memorial. Exact access and transportation guidance can change, so teams should rely on current venue instructions and official city alerts rather than assumptions made weeks in advance.

A season framed by responsibility

The September calendar already places new standards beside new creative chapters: a fur-free official schedule, Zankov’s first DVF collection, major returning names and a broad group of emerging designers. The September 11 adjustment adds another dimension. It asks the industry to recognize that fashion week operates inside the life of its host city, not apart from it.

The most effective response will be quiet and practical: accurate call sheets, respectful communications, properly separated credentials and enough flexibility to accommodate a morning of remembrance.
