McQueen Returns to London Fashion Week After 25 Years on the Official Calendar
By Paris Runway Official | September 19, 2026
McQueen returns to the official London Fashion Week calendar on Sunday, September 20, for its Spring/Summer 2027 catwalk presentation. It is a substantial homecoming for a house whose identity was forged in London, and a moment for creative director Seán McGirr to show how his own vision is settling into the label’s formidable inheritance.
The British Fashion Council’s current official schedule PDF lists McQueen as an invitation-only catwalk on September 20. In an interview published September 19, Vogue reports that this is the house’s first appearance on the official London Fashion Week schedule since February 2001. That distinction is precise: McQueen has staged London presentations in the intervening years, including off-schedule events, but has not been absent from the city altogether.
What we know before the show
The British Fashion Council named McQueen’s London return among the headline moments of its September 17–21 season. McGirr, who joined the house in 2023, told Vogue that the timing felt appropriate as he worked toward a more integrated expression of McQueen’s design vocabulary and his own point of view.
Vogue’s studio preview reports one particularly meaningful reconnection: jeweller and sculptor Shaun Leane, a longtime collaborator of founder Lee Alexander McQueen, has made three new pieces for the presentation. A previewed silver hourglass dress combines jacquard, metallic foliage and a lighter organza element. These are advance glimpses—not a complete account of the collection, its full casting, set design or reception.
That restraint matters. As of this article’s September 19 writing, the runway has not taken place. We cannot yet say what the final collection looks like in motion, whether the collaboration defines its wider direction, or how buyers and critics will respond.
Why London is more than a change of venue
McQueen’s return gives the British capital a powerful name on a calendar that also spans emerging talent, independent labels, established houses and retail presentations. The British Fashion Council’s September 17 announcement frames the season around British design excellence and its wider network of makers and creative professionals. For a house with such a visible London origin story, the city can offer a context that a neutral venue cannot.
McGirr’s own biography reinforces that connection. In the Vogue interview, he recalls arriving in London from Ireland as a teenager, studying at Central Saint Martins and absorbing the city’s galleries and nightlife. Those references are useful context for the upcoming show, though they should not be mistaken for a confirmed description of every look.
There is also an editorial question beneath the excitement: how does a creative director honor a house’s recognisable silhouettes and spirit without turning an archive into a costume? The new work with Leane offers a tangible bridge to McQueen’s earlier creative circle. The collection itself will have to reveal what that bridge leads to.
Paris Runway analysis: a homecoming with real stakes
The following is informed analysis, not an announcement by McQueen or the British Fashion Council.
Returning to the official London schedule creates a concentrated storytelling opportunity. It connects the house’s history to the place that shaped it, while offering McGirr a platform to make the next chapter visible on its own terms. That may generate attention beyond the usual show review: from craftsmanship and collaborators to the contemporary role of British fashion houses in London’s creative economy.
But the symbolic value of a homecoming is not the same thing as a creative verdict or commercial turnaround. The strongest evidence will come from the complete collection, its execution and the sustained response after September 20. For editors and buyers, the most useful questions will be specific: Which house codes feel transformed? Which pieces have a clear life beyond the runway? Does the presentation make a coherent argument for McQueen’s future?
