Getting to know Model & Advocate, Kim Tang

Getting to know Model & Advocate, Kim Tang

How did we find Kim Tang?

When allowing models or content creators to enter our agency, it is a process. Our firm works with over 400 designers globally and over 75 Fashion Runway Shows, however, to date we work with less than 30 models or content creators in our agency.

Why do you ask? Well, because our models MUST be approved and sponsored into our agency by a brand, designer, producer, hotel, restaurant, etc. that we already work with. Which would mean... a client of ours. We do not allow just anyone to enter our doors... but those that have been exclusively picked by a client of ours. There is no 'paying your way in' but there is entering in with a full team of resources and opportunities if you are approved and selected.

We are an agency that brings press and exposure to the top designers in the world. Our main goal since 2015 has always been to bring media, press, news outlets, magazines, local news, etc. the top stories in the fashion industry, hospitality industry, lifestyle industry, etc. Our agency has been working in marketing since 2005 and entered the fashion industry / runway industry in 2015. We didn't have a desire to become or work with models - but our clients needed influencers, content creators, models, etc. as the social media space began to grow and flourish. Especially after COVID. When online sales and marketing became the only way to showcase their designs and creative collections.

So, what did we do? We pivoted. We not only run our media, press and news team but we also now work with models on behalf of our clients. Their needs become our needs. And we are here to give them the resources they need to be successful as times change.

Why do we do this? Why must someone be approved and sponsored? We do this to not only give our client the collaboration they are looking for, but to ensure the model or content creators success as well. We have been in business for over 20 years, 11 of those in Fashion. We are all about relationships. It is important to us that our brands actually want to work with the men or women coming into the agency as a content creator, influencer or model and not just have a 'roster' but have a platform that works for both our clients and the model/content creator/influencer.

Enter Kim Tang.

Kim was headhunted by a brand of ours and right when we met her there was no looking back. Not only did her beauty blow us away, but once we read her interview we got chills looking at the words she was writing.... beautiful, intelligent, profound, justice, fighting for something she believes in. It was a no brainer for our firm to not only find Kim a sponsor, but ensure her success with us as well.

Getting to know Kim Tang:

What is your 'day' job?
I am an Occupational Therapist.

What do you find your passions and desires to be in the world?
Leaving it a better place than how I found it.
Currently I do this through my work by supporting those in my community and advocating for those that are marginalized to have access to opportunities to reach their goals and live a life they choose for themselves.
I also do this through my social media by creating a safe space where people can connect across a few different area e.g., love for travel / lifestyle / fashion / dogs and share their own experiences or seek recommendations or ask for advice if needed.

How do you look at the word 'purpose'? Do you feel like you know what that purpose is or is it always to be found?
To me, purpose is both something that drives you to reach your goals in life and the journey it takes you on while reaching your goals. It is something that gives meaning to what we do, but it is not always fixed. It evolves with time, experience and growth, through the work we do, the people we impact and the values we choose to live by.

Tell us a little about your childhood and if it had any effect on who you are as a person today.
Being from an Asian background and growing up in a western country, it played a big impact on my identity. I was constantly torn and confused by wanting to embrace my culture as family and my Asian traditions were so important to me, but also wanting to be accepted by others around me. Like many other people from a different background, I experienced bullying for being "different" which at the time impacted my self-esteem and self-confidence.

Now that I am older, I use my platform to advocate for inclusivity and diversity in all areas as I believe no one demographic should have priority over another. There is room for everyone. I also strive to create an environment where people feel heard, seen, valued and safe to disclose their own experiences as I know what it is like to feel lonely and lost so if I can help even just one other person feel comfortable in their own skin and embrace everything that makes them, them, then that it what matters to me.

Welcome to the team, Kim. Let's make history.
