Dauphinette Brings a Beautifully Unconventional Vision to New York Fashion Week SS27
Story by: Brit Olivia at Paris Runway Official
Designer Olivia Cheng explores memory, transformation and the beauty of imperfection with “Lady Mondegreen,” a Spring/Summer 2027 collection filled with preserved flowers, delicate fabrics and extraordinary craftsmanship.
At New York Fashion Week, Dauphinette made its runway debut with a Spring/Summer 2027 collection that felt like stepping into a beautifully imagined world. Presented at Genesis House in New York, designer Olivia Cheng introduced Lady Mondegreen, a deeply personal collection inspired by the uncertainty of growing older, the memories we carry and the unexpected ways life unfolds. Known for her imaginative approach to fashion, Cheng brought together romantic silhouettes, unusual embellishments and intricate handmade details in a presentation that celebrated individuality.

Founded in 2018 when Cheng was just 19 years old, Dauphinette has developed a distinctive identity through its use of preserved botanicals, vintage-inspired details and unconventional materials. For Spring/Summer 2027, the designer revisited those signatures through 24 looks, introducing delicate sheer dresses, voluminous skirts, hand-painted fabrics and intricate beadwork. Soft pastel shades, floral embellishments and playful accessories appeared throughout the collection, creating a balance between youthful romance and artistic experimentation.
A Collection Inspired by Memory and Transformation
The collection's title, Lady Mondegreen, refers to a word or phrase that has been misheard or misunderstood, taking on an entirely different meaning. For Cheng, the concept became a reflection on her twenties and the expectations we place on ourselves as life changes. Rather than presenting perfection as the ultimate goal, the designs embraced irregularity, transformation and the beauty found in unexpected details.
One of the collection's most remarkable developments was Florganza, a new textile created by incorporating real pressed flowers into layers of sheer silk organza. More than 1,900 preserved flowers were used throughout the collection, alongside hundreds of hours of hand-beading, sewing and painting. The botanical details, a longstanding signature of the fashion house, gave the garments a delicate, almost dreamlike quality.
Cheng also experimented with distressed chiffon, raw hems and hand-painted imagery, allowing some garments to appear beautifully unfinished or suspended in a moment of change. The presentation included collaborations with PUMA, UGG and ThirdLove, with customized footwear and embellished accessories contributing to the collection's playful character.

The Art of Being Different
What made Dauphinette's Spring/Summer 2027 presentation particularly memorable was its ability to combine technical craftsmanship with a sense of spontaneity. From sheer floral dresses and sculptural skirts to whimsical accessories, the collection offered an alternative perspective on contemporary womenswear, where clothing becomes a way to preserve memories and express personality.
For Cheng, the runway also represented an important milestone in the evolution of a label that began in a college dorm room and has grown into a recognizable name within New York's independent fashion community.
With Lady Mondegreen, Dauphinette reminded audiences that fashion does not always need to be polished, predictable or perfectly understood to be beautiful. Sometimes, its most memorable creations are the ones that invite us to look a little closer.
