Paris Runway Watches Chanel Go Underground: Bowery Station Hosts NYC Runway Show with 81 Looks

NEW YORK NY - December 2, 2025 - In a daring nod to both history and innovation, Chanel staged its 2025/2026 Métiers d’Art runway show last night beneath the city streets in the abandoned platform of Manhattan’s Bowery station. Under the artistic vision of Matthieu Blazy, the iconic house turned subway tiles, turn-stiles and railroad tracks into a theatrical catwalk, transforming everyday urban grit into couture spectacle.

It was Chanel’s first Métiers d’Art show in New York since 2018 and marked a symbolic return to the city under Blazy’s creative direction... a reinvention of where luxury can walk.

Subway as Stage: A Bold Statement of Inclusivity & Urban Energy

The choice of venue was more than theatrical. Blazy explained the subway belongs to everyone from students, professionals, artists, dreamers. The show aimed to blur societal boundaries, celebrating diversity, everyday life, and the anonymity of the city commute. Models arrived from a real subway car, sat on benches along the platform, and moved as if navigating a rush-hour crowd, turning the run-of-the-mill commute into high fashion.

Star-Studded Crowd & Runway Debuts

After a seven-year absence from New York, Chanel drew a powerful front row: celebrities, creatives and fashion insiders filled the subway’s bleacher-style benches. The guest list included actors, musicians, and notable names all brought underground for what quickly became one of the season’s most talked-about shows.

What Comes Next

The collection will hit boutiques in early 2026. But more than that, last night’s show sent a message: the future of high fashion isn’t just in grand ballrooms or palaces but it could be beneath our feet, in the streets, in everyday spaces. With this show, Chanel invites the world to redefine luxury.
