Aldo Segama Brings The Many Ways of Wearing Black to Break Free NYFW - A CFDA Calendar Charity Event

At Break Free NYFW, the only charity runway show on the CFDA calendar, designer Aldo Segama presents a collection shaped by longevity, discipline, and an unwavering respect for craft.

Founder of Aldo’s House of Formals, Segama established his brand nearly two decades ago, opening his first store at just 23. Now approaching 40, his career traces back even further... rooted in the fashion, wedding, and event industries since the age of 17. Based in Rhode Island, with locations in Cranston, Providence, and Newport, his work draws deeply from the state’s distinctive character.

“Rhode Island is a small place, but it’s incredibly rich visually,” Segama explains. “The coastline, the gilded mansions, the black-tie culture... it constantly challenges me to create while still honoring tradition.”

That balance defines his Break Free presentation, titled The Many Ways of Wearing Black - a modern interpretation of the classic tuxedo. Designed with wearability at its core, the collection explores clean cuts, strong silhouettes, and timeless tailoring, offering garments meant to move effortlessly between ceremony, celebration, and contemporary life.

Segama’s philosophy is rooted not in spectacle, but in presence. “I make wearable garments,” he says simply. “Strong, clean, and intentional.” It’s a mindset shaped as much by business resilience as by design. Graduating college in 2008 during the recession, Segama built his brand by finding a niche and committing fully to it... learning, as he puts it, “how to lose with dignity,” so that wins carry meaning.

His gratitude is as intentional as his tailoring. He credits Boston-based designer Conrad Lamour for inspiring him to stay the course, and offers thanks to the models who have supported his work throughout the years. “A painter is nothing without his canvas,” Segama reflects.

Following Break Free NYFW, Segama will present with Flying Solo NYC in September, continuing to expand his presence while remaining anchored in craftsmanship and clarity of vision.

At Break Free, Segama’s work stands as a quiet statement... proof that strength in fashion does not always come from reinvention, but from refinement, endurance, and knowing exactly who you are dressing for.
